Three Quick Tips on WWW Contracts

The World Wide Web provides an exciting new communication vehicle for nonprofit organizations. However, any contract with a vendor to design and develop a home page for your organization should be reviewed carefully before signing. Three quick tips you may want to keep in mind:

  • Separate the fees for the design and development of your home page from the Internet provider storage fees. In fact, we recommend that you have separate contracts with the home page designer and the Internet provider.

  • Tie final payment for the design and development of your home page to your organization's testing and acceptance of the final, working home page. Whenever design elements are involved, it is a good idea to review and accept a final product before you pay for it.

  • Be sure your organization owns the copyright and all computer files that make up your home page. It also is a good idea if the underlying word processing, graphic and other files are in file formats normally supported by your organization.
