Volunteer Protection Act of 1997

• Removes volunteers from liability for negligent acts or omissions committed while acting within the scope of their duties as volunteers

• Does not cover acts or omissions resulting from:

  • willful or criminal misconduct
  • gross negligence
  • reckless misconduct
  • conscious, flagrant indifference to the rights or safety of the individual harmed by the volunteer
